My favorite color...

...is still blue!

It's a boy!

Some popular lines as we have been sharing the news with family:

We still don't have to pay for any future weddings

Now Shannon won't have to worry about more shopping
(as if I was really worried about that)

Gifts already picked out for Behr can just be doubled

We can officially cross "Sandy" off the potential name list

We are so thrilled to be welcoming a second baby boy into our family. The sonogram technician's observation that this child seems "calm and steady" was welcomed news as we currently live with a fireball of energy. But either way, we can't wait to see what it is like to have two boys under our roof.

Saturday Shoes: Behr Botas

Blogger turned friend, Whitney sent me an email with the above subject line and a link to these adorable shoes:

Too bad they seem to be out of Behr's size (for the next few years!) everywhere I have looked.

Saturday Shoes just might be making a comeback...what do you think?

Nine Months Old

Lots has been happening around the Schreiber house.  Most notably, Behr marked 9 months last week.  Since our last update, there have been several notable milestones:

+ first tooth...and he has become a biter
+ first word...MamamamaaaaaMA with hands reached out to me.
+ improved transportation...folks, we have a spinner and a roller!

Less notable milestones include:

Feeding time: Behr has learned that he can spit, throw, and drop food.  All three are attempted daily.  We can't quite tell when he does or doesn't like food, because it has become a bit of play time.  But he loves finger foods and feeds himself well.  We are still spoon feeding purees to ensure he gets enough substance. But overall, meals have become a highlight of our day.

Play time: He loves to dance, shake his booty bottom, and head bangs.  He also has learned to catch and throw.  Loves stacking blocks and knocking them down.  Behr is warming up to the idea of being on his stomach, but still shows no signs of crawling.  Behr has mastered the art of finding all things not baby proof.  He pulls and tugs at things I never would have noticed if not for his curious fingers.

Family time: He looks for Mark and me when one of us isn't there.  This past week, while Mark was at grad school Behr would look to his side of the bed and pat it and then look at me with confusion.  If he sees me jet by, Behr will crane his neck to make sure he can follow my movements around the apartment.  He is a bit of a nosey little guy, always wanted to know what is going on and be sure to have both of us in sight at all times.

Cuddle time: Behr pulls up on us.  He holds on to anything he can grasp, especially if he things we are about to put him down.  And still loves to sleep in our arms.  Behr nuzzles his little head into our necks.  This will never get old.

I am over here today.
Talking about R&R...
But it is not what you think!

Our First Family Photo
my favorite

Dear Behr,

You entered our lives as a bundle of joy and immediately made us love deeper.  You are now 6 months old.  Half a year!  We can hardly believe how fast the time has flown.

Before your arrival, I wrote about looking forward to the firsts.  They have been wonderful so far, and are excited for more.  You make us laugh every day, and sometimes cry.  But have no doubt, the joy you bring bowled us over from day one.  You are such a happy baby.  You giggle spontaneously.  Thank you for helping us slow down and laugh when we need it most.  Dad and I have a lot on our plates, frequently running in different directions.  You have been great at going with the flow and encouraging us to put one foot in front of the next.

If we have learned anything in the past 6 months, it is to take time to savor our moments with you.  We love relaxing on our balcony, dancing together, and mornings when the three of us snuggle in bed.  You haven't quite learned that mornings are for sleeping in and the bed is for quiet time, but that's okay.  We can't help but smile when you start yapping in the mornings.

Behr, I have been trying to capture everything, but inevitably time slipped by without a few of your weekly photos, nights have passed without me writing to you, but that's okay.  You have taught me that.  Thank you.

Love,
your momma

p.s. lots more pictures of you coming soon
p.p.s. plus a pretty cool story written by your dad

Remember Those Predictions?

Well, my friends and family know me and my boy better than I ever thought!  Mark and I guessed he would arrive on 1.10.11 and be about 7 lbs. 8 oz. Clearly, our predictions were optimistic.  Here is who guessed correctly:

Behr's Arrival:

Predictions:
Bernadette Boylan 1.11.11 at 1:30 pm
Robin Paradise 1.12.11 at 2:00 pm
{both off by about half a day}

Actual: 1.12.11 at 00:55 am

Behr's Weight:

Predictions:
Ben Schreiber 8 lbs. 1 oz.
Lauren Volpe 8 lbs. 2 oz.
Cynda Meffen 8 lbs. 2 oz.
Beth Hallinan 8 lbs. 2 oz.
Patti Angelos 8 lbs. 2 oz.

Actual: 8 lbs. 1.1oz

Uncle Ben guessed the closest, but 4 people were not too far behind!

Behr's Length:

We didn't log predictions for this one, but our boy is long!  How you ask?  He has super long chicken strong lacrosse legs!
{still kinda think they look more like chicken legs}

Behr is not sure he is excited about this picture.
He is probably dreading the inevitable...
...his momma showing off his chicken legs to the world!

Top 10: New Realities

1. Each morning, I set out to drink a cup of coffee.  Inevitably I find it half finished sometime after dark.

2. I am on page 18 of the book I started January 9th.  Who knows if I will finish it before spring.

3. If Behr and I are fed, bathed, and dressed for the day by noon, I consider my morning a success.  My previous notion of productivity has officially been blown out of the water.

4. I have managed to take over 300 photos of my baby, but had time to share less that 10 with only a handful of people.

5. I have over 200 emails and I am considering not responding to any and starting fresh.  This would be unnerving to the me before baby.

6. I no longer have time to finish a top 10, so we will just call this a "Top 5."

Introducing Baby Behr

A few photos of our adorable son.

I am writing this from the hospital (still) so it is just a quick photo post.

I love his spiky hair

he loves being held by his daddy

can you ever see enough baby pictures?

our family of three

I cannot wait to capture our birth story here and share it with you all in the coming weeks.

Maternity Photos

My dear friend Julie took fabulous photos of us while we were in PA, weeks ago!  I realize that the hardest part of being a photographer might be sifting through photos and choosing favorites.  I narrowed it down to 80+ and shrunk that into 30+ actual images using the picnik collage feature.  To spare you, I am posting them as a slide show rather than a never ending post of images.  Here you go:

The Finished Nursery

Here is the real life version of my inspiration board.  Everything is set...except the letters for our son's name - you will have to wait until after he is born for that one!

Here are our art work choices, include a french knot piece by my very talented friend Lindsay

...now all we need is the baby!

Due Date

Dear Baby,

Today is your due date.  This very day has been on our hearts and in our minds for months and months.  We have been holding onto this day like a precious gift.  But today, now that it is here, I realize that it is just another day.  Far more important is the day that God has chosen for us.  They day when you are finally ready to arrive.  I long for that day.  I know that it is out of our control, that neither you or I can independently chose to be wrapped in each others arms.  But I know that it is soon.

I am not going through emotions I imagined.  I am not anxious or worried about the looming "when."  I am not tired or uncomfortable.  God has given me incredible peace and contentment throughout this pregnancy.  Your daddy and I have had the chance to bond with you, to learn your movements, to "catch" your feet as you kick and cherish all of the sweet times leading up to your arrival.  We know you better than we could have imagined.  We cannot comprehend the "knowing" that will follow in the days, and weeks and years to come.

We are excited for all of your firsts, introducing you to the things we love.  We know that there are many first that every child experiences.  We are more excited about the firsts that are special moments in time.  We are excited to take you sailing, watch you play in the sand at the shore, bring you to your first lacrosse game.  These are the things we dreamed of enjoying with you for as long as we have known each other.  These are the moments we talked about before we even began our family.

I want you to arrive today.  I have wanted you to arrive every day for weeks.  But I am confident that your arrival will be perfect, no matter when it is.

love,
your momma

Not much change in the past three weeks.

The Year of Baby

2011, like no other year, will be the year of the baby.  I will give birth in early January {hopefully soon!} and watch my baby grow throughout the year.  I will learn what being a stay at home mom will be like for a few months and then transition to life as a working mother.  I cannot imaging the changes that I am up for in the 12 months ahead, but I am sure that many, most, or perhaps all of my learning lessons will tie back to baby!

The question that is consuming me on the 1st of this year...
...when will he be here?!?
{because I really want to meet him, like now!}

I certainly don't know.  But I thought it would be fun to share the guesses of some of my friends and family.  Here is what people guesses at a few baby showers:

{I left out the 2010 predictions since those have come and gone}

What do you think?  When will out little guy decide to make his grand entrance?

37 Weeks

WOW!  I have grown a lot in the last three weeks.  No wonder none of my clothes seem to fit.  It is crazy to me how the change in belly size just sneaks up, even when it is strikingly obvious.

Mark and I are slowly getting ready.  I am sure there is tons left to do to prepare for baby, but we are content with where we are.  We are emotionally and logistically ready to bring our son home.  The clothes are washed, diapers and wipes are stockpiled, books have been read, the car seat is strapped in the car, the house is in order and we aren't going anywhere.  We are "ready."

However, that readiness comes with the comfort of knowing that we will never really be ready for anything that comes ahead of us in the next few weeks, months and years as parents.  It is reassuring to know that this is the position in which everyone enters parenthood and that life is full of learning lessons.

We can't wait to meet our son, hold him and bring him home...in the mean time, I guess I will keep growing!

Sneak Peek: Maternity Photos

My friend Julie loves photography and takes some pretty amazing pictures!  For a sneak peek of my maternity photos, skip over to her blog: Green Eggs and Hammes.  Oh, and while you are there, be sure to leave a comment and let her know that her photog skills are awesome!

Have a lovely weekend!

33 Weeks

I have been negligent in my picture taking.  I apologize.  Here I am at 33 weeks and all along the way!  I really have gotten a lot bigger since the 26 week picture, even though it is hard to tell here.

Not that you have seen the baby bump, here is what I have been thinking:

Am I really going to walk home with a baby in two months?  It seems surreal.  I haven't been pregnant long enough.  I am so excited to meet our little guy.  I am eagerly awaiting his arrival.  Everything so far seems completely normal, completely as I expected. {completely as I planned?!}

That is everything except the going home with a baby part.  I can rationalize and wrap my head around most aspects of this pregnancy, but for some reason, the concept of actually having my own child is foreign.  {perhaps because this is my first child and it IS foreign}  Don't misunderstand me, I am thrilled to become a mother, I just cannot anticipate anything about this scenario.

Did I tell you I am planning on writing a book during my maternity leave?  Perhaps this point more than most reminds me that I have no idea what I am heading towards.  While it would not be unlike me to multitask to the extreme, I also know that slowing down is a good thing.  What I accomplish beyond the basic necessities of me and the baby will be up for determination.

For now, I am going to keep trying to wrap my head around the incredible fact that for the next 5, 10, 12, 18 years, this little guy is going to be entirely dependant on me...until one day, I wake up all to suddenly and realize that he has become a man.  Now that is something I am not even going to try to comprehend...

DC Baby Shower

This past weekend my dear friends threw me an incredible baby shower filled with laughter, love, and a lot of personal touches that made this day especially special.

I was just a day shy of 32 weeks and decided to show off my baby bump with some of the cute newborn clothing they used as decoration!  Wait... can you believe there are only 8 weeks left?

Really delicious cupcakes, Izze {a recent preggo craving} and the most beautiful fruit salad.

It was so great to have everyone there!  Lauren flew in from Kentucky {sadly her new home} and a ton of these girls live close, but we haven't had the chance to catch up because life gets crazy.  It was wonderful to see everyone.  I love these girls!!

Please also observe the intensity in which Katie is eating her cupcake.  Classic.

Group Photo Op

The rubber duckies were adorable!

{and clearly the host amused herself by taking pictures of them!}

Uber crafty.
Love the onsies.
Love the yarn "clothes line."

I don't even know where to begin on the generosity of these ladies!
Some of the highlights captures on film above:

Capitol Hill Onesie
Lax Onesie made by Dani's Sister of Happy Hollis Design
The Boon Squirt spoon that I was seriously explaining.
Wipes wrapped in Diapers
A trash can for dirty diapers and a book about poop to go along with it!

Needless to say, I laughed hysterically during the present opening and was overwhelmed by the outpouring from these girls.

Anna C, Anna B, and Me

These ladies connected to find me a place to live when I first started working in DC and have been an incredible blessing in our lives ever since!  I am so excited we are all pregnant together and have the chance to share this journey with one another!

January 7 and January 3
Who will pop first?

Beautiful Favors
Love Ducks
Can you ever get enough ducks?

A HUGE thanks to these ladies
 {and Lina, not pictured
for showering me so well!

Ottoman for Nursery

You remember my nursery inspiration board right?

Well...now I want to add this to the mix.
A Moroccan Leather Pouf in Lime Green from Serena and Lily.

It is beautiful.

I might be in love.

The only problem is...the $395 price tag!  Any ideas for a similar item?

Maternity Shoot 2

While in Boston, Mark and I took lots pictures at our favorite orchard.  Still contemplating "professional" maternity photos, but these are fun in the mean time.

These photos were taken at 27.5 weeks.  Now, two weeks later, so much has changed.
My belly is growing noticeably larger each day.
Baby boy kicks a bit differently.  His patterns of movement continue to change.
Hiccups are a frequent occurrence for the little guy, while I just have consistent heartburn.
He has taken up residence in the center of my belly, no longer favoring the right side.
And when I am driving, he kicks my ribs, begging for me to elongate my torso and provide more room.
He doesn't wake me up any more, but seems to follow my daily rhythm, becoming active when I am.
I am longing to hold him, but want him to grow healthy and strong inside of me.
I cannot fathom that in about 10 weeks I get to hold this little guy in my hands!
