Wardrobe Rework

Five days before my due date might not seem like an ideal time to focus on my wardrobe, but for the next few months, my world is shifting and I want to make sure I don't wear all black! I am joining Danielle of Framed Frosting for this style experiment.

My six pieces:

J.Crew Aqua Sleeveless Tunic - In theory, I love this item, but I never seem to wear it out of the house.

Tulip Shirt from Stitchfix - I love the pattern here and the tab sleeves. I want to be bold in how I wear and style this shirt (not just wear it with white jeans every time).

J.Crew Boy Shirt in Plaid - This shirt is quintessential Shannon. Unfortunately it has fallen out of rotation and needs some new pep.

Yellow Kate Spade Cardi - Can I saw swoon? This cardigan rocks, but I am sure it can be more versatile than I typically allow.

Madewell Chambray Top - After searching for the perfect jean jacket, I bit the bullet last Spring and went with chambray instead. I am still a bit overwhelmed on how to wear this, so I will gladly accept your pointers!

J.Crew Berry Cords - A twist on nantucket red, perhaps? I love the idea of these pants (so bought them while pregnant) but haven't had a chance to wear them yet.

Be sure to check out my looks on instagram. I am even going to try to weave some of these pieces in and around having a baby. Wish me luck! (and again, seriously, give me your fashion pointers!)

Aztec Graphic Prints

This weekend marks both the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo. Is there enough love to go around? I will be wearing a cute dress and celebrating the Derby here in DC. However, I cannot let Cinco de Mayo pass me by. It is my unofficial start to summer, the welcoming of dinner outside on our porch, the promise of sunny weather, the kickstart of bbqs and pool parties. The pre-summer season if you will. I am obsessed with the aztec meets southwest prints that are everywhere these days. Mixed with bright pops of color, they scream happiness. And even better, one of these gems is on its way to my front door. Can you guess which one?

Spring Showers | Kate Reed Inspired

Do you all love Fairly Legal as much as I do? I am seriously obsessed. Admittedly, my favorite part of the show might be Kate Reed's wardrobe. She rocks a signature black trench, bold pops of color, and a fabulous shoe collection. As we launch into the season of spring showers, she is the perfect inspiration for commuting to work in the rain. I get to walk in the lovely weather, so keeping my feet dry is a must. I almost always wear a dress, I strive for bright cheery colors to combat the grey skies, and I grab a cozy cardigain incase I get a chill in the office. Now, if only I have the shoe budget for a pair of wellies to match each bold print dress! Here are some outfits I would pull together ala-Kate Reed.

one: trench / dress / shoes | two: trench / dress / shoes | three: trench / dress / shoes

What do you wear to work in the rain?
p.s. I know that tan trench coats are the classic, but I have had my black trench for 10 years and it has remained my trusty all weather standby. If you are debating between tan and black, I vote for black all the way!

Linking up to Long Distance Loving for Friday's Fancies.

So fresh and so clean!

Today, I am linking up with {av} from Long Distance Loving for Friday's Fancies. However, I must confess. As much as I love to follow sports, since having a kid, this is an area of my life that has fallen by the wayside. For the first time since I can remember, not only did I not fill out a bracket, but I don't even have a clue what's going on in March Madness. I miss the thrill of watching games all day and rooting for the underdogs. My sports watching days have been trimmed to football and lacrosse. I have to warn you, I am a diehard Philadelphia Eagles Fan. Seriously. I scream at the television and truly consider myself part of the team. When refering to how the Eagles are doing, I frequently say "we." Behr carries around a Eagles football already, making a momma proud!

So, if Alison, my team, and my Dad will forgive me, I am taking a bit of liberty with cheering for my favorite team today...and even putting a twist on traditional Eagles green. {basically my excuse to share my minty love!} But hey, it's my birthday and mint chocolate chip is my absolute favorite flavor for ice cream and cupcakes! So mint it is.

p.s. all of these items would make fabulous birthday presents. hint, hint.

She's Baaaack! Kate Reed Returns for Season 2!

In just 10 short days, the second season of my new favorite show, Fairly Legal, begins on USA. Friday, March 16, we are guarantees to be once again wowed by Kate Reed's fashion. Played by Sarah Shahi, the lawyer turned meadiator rocks an incredible wardrobe.  The promos alone have inspired me to brighten up my work attire. Think bright colors, bold patterns, and perfect tailoring. You can get a quick Kate Reed makeover by flipping through the J.Crew Spring 2012 catalog. Here are a few pieces that I selected based on the few show clips available.

All items pictured above from J.Crew.com // Talitha Blouse in Vintage Berry // Blythe Blouse in Royal Violet // Silk Boy Shirt in Heart Throb // Wool Crepe Pencil Skirt in Decadent Red // Stary Night Locket // Icon Trench // Superfine Cotton Marielle Dress in Byzantine Blue // Directors Dress in Bright Dahlia

I can't wait to begin creating style posts based on the epsodes.
Until then, here is a peak at last season's inspirations.

Pantone, Let's Tango

This week, the Friday's Fancies brought up a few of my blogger faux paus. First, I have never been on the pantone website before as evidenced by the fact that a. I thought it was spelled "panatone" and b. I thought it was just another ho-hum paint company with color chips that just happened to become famous. Clearly I though wrong. The site's collaboration with the fashion industry amazed and impressed me. I found myself pouring over all of the design sketches and color picks for the Spring and Fall 2012 fashion trends. And all of this from a company based out of New Jersey!

Tangerine Tango is a color outside of my comfort zone, but still a shade I gravitate towards. I expecially like that it pairs well with my favorites, navy blue, aqua, and crisp white! These pieces above would be perfect for any vacation along with a pair of white denim skinnies. Send me on my way.

  1. Orange cross-over purse from Rebecca Minkoff that I am still lusting over.
  2. The perfect floppy hat from Forever 21
  3. Slides from Missoni available at anthropologie or shopbop.
  4. Fancy earings to dazzel any outfit.
  5. A cover for my iPhone, to express my newfound appreciation for Pantone, one "a."
  6. Orange blouse from h&m
  7. The perfect cream sleeveless blouse to keep things cool
  8. This shirt would go from my work wardrobe to my weekend wardrobe seemlessly, double bonus!
  9. The perfect skirt for Easter Sunday, and every Sunday brunch after that.
  10. From dress to beach cover up, this would be a great multi-tasker.
  11. Earrings to keep it casual and fun
  12. And I am hopig this throw could double as a sarong or shawl to round out any packing list!

joining {av} to dance the week away!

...and because I couldn't resist!
Some pajamas to fit the theme.

We Are Heading West

Do you remember way back when we won two free plane tickets?

Well, we have picked a location, San Francisco! We have been to the bay area before, but this time, there won't be any work conferences. We plan to visit good friends, and hit up the sights. If you have suggestions and recommendations for restaurants, vineyards, hikes, or more, please, please share. While we have just begun the planning, my bags are practically packed already! Here is what I am planning to bring or hoping to buy for this trip:

my packing will be basic black with warm berry brights

Already have: camel swag cardigan // my three favorite necklaces, including the newest one // raspberry thermal // polkadot dress // j.crew white scallop lace shell (and the black one!) // gingham check shirt (similar to this one) // baseball tee // maritime stipe shirt (similar to this one) // black prairie boots // red toms // + my packing list

Hope to get: new black flats // rebecca minkoff mini 5 zip clutch in orange // backpack inspired by bridget // emerson made dress

Still hunting for: the perfect skirt and one or two funky scarves

Linking up with {av} for Friday's Fancies!

Freshly Squeezed

The warm weather that graced the East Coast has me craving color in my wardrobe. This morning I stepped outside and realized it even smelled like Spring! Too bad we have snow forcasted for Sunday. I am choosing to ignore the snow and think about a few key items I want to add to brighten my wardrobe!

Gumdrop Stud Earrings from Kate Spade. I have posted these before in other colors. They are my new obsession! // Scarf from Echo, currently on sale at Nordstrom // These necklaces would certainly be a fun statement piece for spring and summer. And because they are so affordable, I wouldn't be afraid to wear them at the beach or pool side. // Loving this neon wrap watch! Watches are my second obsession, but I haven't taken the plunge to puchase a statment time piece. // These lemon yellow heels would blend perfectly with my spring suits, and even better with sundresses! // I am not sure I am going to be able to resist the colorful denim trend. So far I have stuck to my trusty blues and a few pairs of white jeans. But this papaya hued pair from J.Crew has me swooning. // How fun is this shade of Bobbi Brown lip gloss? //Speaking of fun shades, I could be super adventurous and take a spin in the 80s with this stila blush from *birchbox! // And of course, my pedicure would be completely season appropriate with my trusty, Essie Clam Bake!

I have been slowly collecting these favorite pieces for Spring to remind me that the flowers will soon be blooming! I was thrilled when {av} emailed the theme for this Friday's Fancies, Spring Fever. I have clearly been struck!

New Wardrobe | Saving Money While Shopping

So basically, I am realizing that the baby I gave birth to changed my body dramatically.  I have a whole lot of baby mama questions, but first a new wardrobe needs to be procured.  Totally wish I could pull an I dream of Jeannie nose twitch right about now.  And poof, everything in my closet would be new and flattering!

Ha, if you are dreaming with me, then you might like what I am talking about over here:

Have a fabulously affordable Sunday!

p.s. doesn't that "affordable" kind of dampen the mood?

if only affordable insinuated fabulous.

Oh, and I completely forgot to mention, you can find my {not always so affordable} baby faves here:

Kate Reed Inspiration: Cross Hatch Dress

It is no secret that I love the character Kate Reed from Fairly Legal.  Her style is effortlessly chic.  Although I do not believe she actually gets ready on her boat every morning and still manages to look this good!

You can look effortlessly chic now too...

Wardrobe Inspiration: Fairly Legal

I have not adopted a new favorite TV show in years!  But a Fairly Legal, a new series from USA has got me hooked.

The series is comic, witty, talked intelligently about realistic issues and most importantly, fashionable.  I have fallen head over heals for the main character, Kate Reed's wardrobe.  Leading me to wonder, can I replicate her hollywood-ized outfits with real life clothing?!  Yes!  Check it out:
