Starting the Conversations

Although I have been blogging for a few years now, I have been keeping a wall between us.  I have been hesitant to share.  Hesitant to let you, incredible readers and fellow bloggers, into the nitty gritty of my life.  I have been keeping you at a distance.

No, it is not because of fear of putting things on the internet or even personal security reasons.  The reason runs much deeper.  In reality, you have gotten as close to me as most other people in my life.  I operate with smiles over coffee, keeping friends at arms length.  I have been burned before.  I've had and lost friendships that hurt.  And so I am fearful of that pain.

I tend to be short on the warm and fuzzy, quick to offer cold hard facts.

But here I am, jumping in with two feet.  Committed to starting the conversations.  True, deep, personal conversations.  Here is my plan:

I have created a formspring account.  Yes, I am jumping on the bandwagon.  But I have received quite a few emails about babies and breast feeding.  You have taken time to seek me out.  Imagine the conversations that would start if I made it easier?  So that is where formspring comes in.  Look up at my top nav bar...way up there..."QUESTIONS" will take you to my formspring.  Ask away.  I am excited to hear what you want to know!

Commenting...and responding.  I respond back in the comments section of my blog posts occasionally.  I am going to start picking it up.  Responding more regularly.  Hoping to make the comment section a bit more conversational.

Email.  Now you have it.  Use it wisely.

  1. Thanks for taking comments seriously and responding. I think it's a good habit to get into (replying to comments) and get a little put off when I comment regularly on a blog and never get a reply.

  2. @Beth - Thanks for the encouragement! Unfortunately a lot of people don't link their email accounts, so it is hard to email people back. So hopefully responding in the comment section will foster greater community.

  3. It's so funny because I'm always hesitant to actually comment, even though I would love to have conversations about so many things I read. It's always tough to put yourself out there. But I guess this is what it's all about, creating community! I'll take on your challenge too - let's check in on how we do :)

  4. Yay :) I think your blog should be where you get to be you, and we, your faithful readers, just tag along. I've loved getting to know you, and I can't wait to learn more!

  7. It is so hard to be vulnerable but those are the blogs I like the best... people just being real! I am not a blogger but I have been composing a letter in my head to all bloggers... about the things that make or break a blog to me. :-) I think too that when a blogger takes time to respond to their commenters, it makes people keep coming back for more because it feels like a friendship instead of just reading a writing by that person. But of course, what do I know... I'm not a blogger. :-) Looking forward to reading more!
