Spring Showers | Kate Reed Inspired

Do you all love Fairly Legal as much as I do? I am seriously obsessed. Admittedly, my favorite part of the show might be Kate Reed's wardrobe. She rocks a signature black trench, bold pops of color, and a fabulous shoe collection. As we launch into the season of spring showers, she is the perfect inspiration for commuting to work in the rain. I get to walk in the lovely weather, so keeping my feet dry is a must. I almost always wear a dress, I strive for bright cheery colors to combat the grey skies, and I grab a cozy cardigain incase I get a chill in the office. Now, if only I have the shoe budget for a pair of wellies to match each bold print dress! Here are some outfits I would pull together ala-Kate Reed.

one: trench / dress / shoes | two: trench / dress / shoes | three: trench / dress / shoes

What do you wear to work in the rain?
p.s. I know that tan trench coats are the classic, but I have had my black trench for 10 years and it has remained my trusty all weather standby. If you are debating between tan and black, I vote for black all the way!

All Lacrosse

Recently, Behr has been catching me off guard. I will steal a glance at him and he looks all grown. The baby in him is quickly slipping away. These pictures are melting my heart, and choking me up. Look at what a big boy he is! We spent six hours outside at lacrosse games Saturday afternoon. Behr enjoyed every second. He cheered for the teams, clapped when the crowds roared, soaked up the attention from all of our friends, including his buddy Sam, and wouldn't part with the lacrosse stick. Mark and I had nearly as much fun catching up with former coaches, teammates, and players and their families. If only we could spend every weekend at lacrosse games with these people we love so much!

Flights + Food

Last year, after a few plane trips with an infant in tow, I felt like an expert. This past weekend launched us into flight count double digits and also a new phase of travel, flying-with-a-toddler-that-wants-to-feed-themselves-solid-foods-and-trying-not-to-make-a-mess. While I cannot make any promises on the mess front, I can share with you a few of my new favorite airport food stops. This past weekend we flew at dinner time on both ends of our flight - a great test run for out cross-country flights next month. I quickly learned a few things. Once we get through security, I now make a bee-line for the following eateries to stock up for the flight:

Starbucks - if you have a Starbucks post-security, get excited. These are also a great kid-friendly stop when you are on the road. Our two top picks are peeled dried apple rings and Horizon organic, shelf-stable milk. This is a must have when flying.

Sandwich Shop - typically you can find a fruit cup. This is a big win for my little family. I also hunt for veggie cups, and anywhere that sells soup and is typically willing to fork over a few packs of saltines. I also try to buy at least two water bottles for all of us to stay hydrated on the flight.

Third choice are the souvenir shops - chex mix, gold fish, water bottles, these are a great stop for pre-packaged goods if the fresher options aren't available.

Finally, I learned that bringing an extra small tupperware and or ziplock bag is extremely helpful to make these over priced purchases last, without spilling all over my carryon.

How about the other traveling mommas out there? I would love to know what you do for meals on the road. I am linking up with MiniMeals on with two cats. Join us!

A Very Boston Birthday

A few weeks ago, on a whim, we booked tickets to Boston for my birthday weekend. Mark and I met in college and try to go back to visit a few times a year. This particular weekend, our alma matter happened to be hosting two home lacrosse games, perfect timing for a celebration and support for our former teams! So we made plans, hopped on a plane and couldn't have asked for a better adventure. We kicked off our Saturday morning bright and early with burritos and beer for breakfast at Agave in Newburyport. What better way to say hello to 10 am? After some quality time with Courtney strolling around and Behr excitedly "woof, woofing" at every dog we passed, it was nap time. Behr slept in his carseat as we cruised along some of the best coastal drives, through neighborhoods where memories were shared, and even stopped at my favorite cove for seaglass hunting. I love the ocean and miss living so close. The bulk of Saturday was spent on the lacrosse field, six hours of catching up with former coaches, teammates and friends. Those pictures deserve their own post, later this week. The evening was capped with dinner and copious amounts of laughter at our all time favorite restaurant, The Black Cow. Behr was a champ and lasted 3 full hours, well past his bedtime and into the late evening hours.

We woke up Sunday morning, said goodbye to our old neighborhood, and headed into the city for church, the aquarium, and a blogger date. Behr loved clapping along with the fur seals, and standing with his nose against the glass of the fish tank, and trying to touch the rays. Before we left the aquarium, Mark took Behr to the harbor seals to tell him the story of our engagement, about how Chuck the seal fetched the ring from the bottom of the tank, and mommy said yes! It was so cute. Behr looked with wide eyes, as if he understood every word.

And there she is, the lovely Alex, in person, woot! She was the ultimate, juggled her schedule, came down to the waterfront, scrapped our plans to get sticky buns at Flour, and accomodated our need for a full meal. We dined at The Living Room, and struck up fabulous conversation for a rainy day. Behr was completely tuckered out and fell asleep in Mark's arms. But one thing is clear, we are definitely getting together next time I am in Boston or she is in DC, over sticky buns and coffee for sure!

Saturday Shoes: Sandal Season

About this time last year, RueLaLa was featuring a fine selection of Jack Rogers. I was almost enticed to give up my shoe fast. But I stuck to my promise and did not slip. And then, RueLaLa did me right. They recently had another sale. And today, I am the proud owner of a pair of Navajo Brown Society Jack Rogers. Bring on Summer!

p.s. To those of you who are worried about my budget and my closet space, no need to worry. I am not going to purchase every pair of shoes featured during 2011. The point of the shoes fast was not to defer my spending, but rather to deter. The shoe collection was assessed. Some pairs were tossed, while others were consigned. I am purchasing new shoes, sparingly.

So fresh and so clean!

Today, I am linking up with {av} from Long Distance Loving for Friday's Fancies. However, I must confess. As much as I love to follow sports, since having a kid, this is an area of my life that has fallen by the wayside. For the first time since I can remember, not only did I not fill out a bracket, but I don't even have a clue what's going on in March Madness. I miss the thrill of watching games all day and rooting for the underdogs. My sports watching days have been trimmed to football and lacrosse. I have to warn you, I am a diehard Philadelphia Eagles Fan. Seriously. I scream at the television and truly consider myself part of the team. When refering to how the Eagles are doing, I frequently say "we." Behr carries around a Eagles football already, making a momma proud!

So, if Alison, my team, and my Dad will forgive me, I am taking a bit of liberty with cheering for my favorite team today...and even putting a twist on traditional Eagles green. {basically my excuse to share my minty love!} But hey, it's my birthday and mint chocolate chip is my absolute favorite flavor for ice cream and cupcakes! So mint it is.

p.s. all of these items would make fabulous birthday presents. hint, hint.

Small T-Rex Style

whoa, look at that truck!

oh you're taking pictures

can I have the camera?

is this candy? let me try.
(please tell me your kids eat rocks too!)

see mom, dad's right, I need a hair cut

whoa, another truck!

I'm avoiding the camera now.

are you seriously still taking pictures?

how's my blue steel?

is this angle better?

I call this, "serious face"

cheese!

I see dad. He's coming to rescue me.

Tongues out, on a mission.

Alright mommas, am I the only one that cannot delete a single picture? I want to keep them all. I am afraid that one day I will wake up and my baby will be grown and I will have no memories of these precious days. Look at these pictures! He is already a big boy. And the growing isn't gonna stop any time soon. His potbelly is begining to shrink. His facial features are losing their baby chub. And man, oh man, I would give anything to watch him revert to crawling. He has nearly transitioned completely to walking, which really means mountain climbing. Every bump or lump is a conquest for him. He always takes the difficult path, it is simply more fun to face the challenge. I want to capture every. single. moment. of this glorious phase. But I also want to put the camera down and enjoy it. We have been running around the park recently. And let me tell you, this kid has wheels and no fear. It is a crazy combination. He has literally walked off the edge of the playground equiptment a few times, but the tumbles don't seem to bother him. I am so glad. I know the scrapped knees, bumps, and bruises are coming soon. I want to keep him safe, but he seems to have more fun falling down. So, bring it on. Summer, I am ready for you. Even if it means ice packs and bandages. And perhaps a few tears shed by momma.

...and at this rate a spare harddrive to store all of the photos!
